It’s like Dead Space is back! But that’s not the case. But when the new version of Dead Space comes out in January, this will be the case. In any case, please keep in mind that we’ve gotten off track here. The real reason we’re all here is to talk about The Callisto Protocol, a new action-horror video game made by Striking Distance Studios. Some of the same people are working on this game as they did on the Dead Space games.
It’s hard to miss the similarities: a scary trip through the dimly lit halls of a science fiction setting told from a third-person point of view. People have thought for a long time that it will be one of the best-known movies to come out in 2022, but early reactions have been mixed.
We gave The Callisto Protocol for the PlayStation 5 a score of 7 out of 10, which is both good and a little bit of a letdown. This is what happens: “The Callisto Protocol is a consistently good game that, at its best, can compete at a high level with some of the best survival horror games ever made. But there’s no getting around the fact that the game doesn’t have much that makes it stand out.” Several performance problems have also slowed things down, but we hope that these problems will be fixed in the not-too-distant future.
Now that we’ve talked about everything, it’s time to ask the most important question: did you buy The Callisto Protocol? Vote in our polls, and then go to the comments section below to tell us everything about what you have planned.
Isaac Clarke, the main character of the long-running horror and science fiction TV show Dead Space, is getting his skin in the latest version of the popular battle royale game Fortnite. By playing Isaac and Ellen Ripley, we can finally have the crossover between Dead Space and Alien that we’ve always wanted.
This is one of the most typical crossovers we’ve seen in a while—think Goku, Naruto, and other characters like that—and Isaac seems like he would be a natural fit for Fortnite. Also, the long-awaited remake of Dead Space will be out on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox One on January 27. This is the perfect time to release it.
If you go to the Fortnite store and buy the Strange Transmissions quest pack, you can get Isaac right away. This will cost you the normal amount, of course. When you buy this pack, you will get Isaac’s outfit, a pickaxe, two back blings, and tasks that can earn you up to 1,500 V-Bucks each.
We think it’s pretty cool that one of the back bling is a copy of the USG Ishimura, the abandoned mining ship you look into in Dead Space. The pickaxe can also be used to cut through plasma.
For those who are curious, the Dead Space game for the Wii that came out in 2009 was called “Extraction.” You can play different characters in this on-rail shooter, and each of them works with the Wii motion control system. You can explore the Aegis VII colony and the Ishimura and shoot your way through them. And it’s pretty great. In 2009, we said that the game was great because it “broke the rules of what an on-rails game can and should do.” This game still lives up to those high marks.
Also, it’s important to remember that there have been a lot of big changes, some of which you might not even know about. Because Gunner Wright voiced Isaac in the sequels, it’s easy to forget that Isaac was a silent main character in the first game. However, in the remake, Isaac is fully voiced and has all-new dialogue lines. It’s easy to forget that Isaac was the main character in the first game because of this (and yes, Wright reprises the role to round out a trilogy of cracking performances).
Wright’s portrayal, which is simple but effective, gives the game a little more heart than it did before, and all of the other characters also feel a little more real. With mostly new voices reading a well-written rewrite of the script, the whole thing feels less like a campy B-movie and more like Ridley Scott’s Alien. This is because most of the actors and actresses are new. Again, this adds fuel to the mix as a whole, which makes the tense parts stronger than they were before.
But some parts of the game were so old that they took us out of the action. For example, we had to look at maps in the menus and look for save points on the walls. We also had to press the same button over and over to see a clunky line on the floor that pointed to our goal. Some parts of the game just feel old, especially when compared to how modern the graphics are.
